Candy and Ronnie, Have You Seen Them Yet?

Untraceable-

Summary according to IMDB:

A secret service agent, Jennifer Marsh, gets caught in a very personal and deadly cat-and-mouse game with a serial killer who knows that people (being what they are - both curious and drawn to the dark side of things) will log onto an "untraceable" website where he conducts violent and painful murders LIVE on the net. The more people who log on and enter the website, the quicker and more violently the victim dies

It stars Diane Lane, Colin Hanks, and Billy Burke.

Honestly, it wasn’t a bad movie. It had creative ways of torture, it didn’t go for shock value, and it was well acted. However, for a thriller, it sure wasn’t thrilling. There was no point where I felt tense, or worried about the characters. They revealed who the killer was WAY too early. All and all, I’d say it was good. It was worth watching the once, I don’t regret those two hours, but I won’t watch it again.

27 Dresses-

Summary according to IMDB:

After serving as a bridesmaid 27 times, a young woman (Heigl) wrestles with the idea of standing by her sister's side as her sibling marries the man she's secretly in love with

It stars Katherine Heigl, James Marsden, and Edward Burns.

It was alright. I’m not the hugest romantic comedy fan, so I may not be the best judge. There were some cute moments, and it had funny times. I like what Katherine Heigl does with comedy, and Judy Greer is always awesome. Mostly it was just generic. The plot was literally girl meets guy, girl falls in love, guy makes mistake, girl forgives him, and they live happily ever after. It had possibly the worst dull, standard, cliché ending ever for a movie. If you like chick flicks, this is a great movie for you. If not, then please don't go see it, you'll really dislike it.

There has been nothing out recently that looks good, so I'm excited about several trailers I saw:

If You Just Realized What I Just Realized

I just realized…

-I haven’t gotten gas in my car since the day I bought it, more than a month ago. Either this car gets great gas mileage, or I am a hermit. Either way, nice.

-2008 is going to be an awesome year for music. Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz, Howie Day, and Death Cab all have albums coming out soon.

-It was 60 yesterday when I left my house, and snowing/freezing rain when I left work. I think I’m getting a sinus infection.

-My friend and I were talking in the computer lab today, and she was telling me how crazy she is about green design, as she was printing out page after page of information about it. I believe that is called hypocrisy.

-I am sad that John Edwards dropped out, but I don’t know why. I was never going to vote for him.

-I really want some brownies, and I'm not sure why. I almost never eat chocolate. Who wants to bake me some?

-My Dad’s birthday is on Saturday and my boyfriend’s (25) birthday is next week. Crap. Suggestions? Especially for my boyfriend. What do 25 year old guys like? So far all I have is the Wii Zapper.

Hit Me With Your Best Shot

I'm sorry I haven't been around much (again) I've been really fucking stressed with work, my boyfriend's work, school, my car, and all sorts of other crap. I finally got my car registered today, so at least that's all taken care of. I also finished my taxes today, so I feel like I got something accomplished.

Anyways, I got tagged by both Sarcastica and Mr. Fab for a similar meme. They weren't exactly the same, but close enough. I think I did this one in October, but I came up with new ones for you.

The Rules:
Share seven random and/or weird facts about yourself on your blog, tag 7 random [and or weird] people at the end of your post and include links to their blogs. Let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

As always, I’m not tagging anyone, but here are my facts:

  1. I love tween entertainment. I don’t watch this stuff often (because my boyfriend makes fun of me) but I love Hannah Montana, Drake and Josh, and things like that. I think it’s because of my love of Even Stevens from when I was in high school.

  1. I love trashtastic television. Whether its legitimate TV shows, like Gossip Girl and Dirty Sexy Money, or reality TV like Beauty and the Geek or The Pickup Artist. I don’t watch the dating ones, though, just the competitions.

  1. I hate my job but I love my (most of) my coworkers, so I probably won’t leave anytime soon. I do keep a close watch on Monster though, just in case.

  1. I dislike being carded because I’m lazy and don’t like getting my license out. I’m also offended when I’m not carded, like I look old and haggard. So most of the time I just get water

  1. I love to watch TV shows on DVD, but I get really consumed. I’ll watch a season a day if I can. Nothing else interests me in the meantime. Six Feet Under, Nip/Tuck, Queer As Folk, and Lost are a few we’ve watched. I think I’m going to re-watch Gilmore Girls next, then Veronica Mars.

  1. I love to read when I have the time. When I’m not in school, I can easily read 3-5 books a week. It would be more if I didn’t love TV so much. During the school year, I still usually pop out 1-2 books a week.

  1. There’s nothing that makes me happier than going to concerts. What’s better than beer and music? Nothing. I especially like them at smaller venues. When a band is at a stadium, it kills all the fun for me. Starsailor, Snow Patrol, Ok Go, Jason Mraz, The Thrills, Matt Kearny, Silversun Pickups, and Aqualung are a few of the bands we’ve seen in the last couple of years.

You Say It's Your Birthday

Everyone go wish Avitable a Happy Birthday!

As you may know, he is a quiet, shy fellow who is too afraid to ask for anything on his birthday. I mean, the whole event almost slipped by without him saying a word. Really, Adam, you need to be more direct about these things. Anyway, Happy Birthday!

It Gets Inside And It Tears You Up

The one where I get angry: (which means my language is appalling.)

This is appalling, shameful, disappointing, disgusting, unforgivable, rude, insensitive, and yet, not a huge surprise coming from a Fox News employee.

On DListed, they reported this story. (See the orginal here)
"John Gibson of FoxNews takes the cake though. ThinkProgress has audio of this fool making jokes. John played a clip from "Brokeback Mountain" where Jake Gyllenhaal says "I wish I knew how to quit you." The ever-clever John responded with, "Well he found out how to quit you." He goes on to call Heath a "weirdo" with a "serious drug problem" and then says it's a "terrible thing." Ok, if you're going to be an ass, be a fucking ass. Don't act like you care or you have any concern. John didn't stop there. Throughout his entire show he kept talking about it even when the topic was on something else. He wouldn't drop it and move on."

In addition, those fuckers at the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas are planning on flying to Australia from Kansas to picket his funeral because he was in Brokeback Mountain. Apparently by acting like a gay man he was promoting homosexuality. Fuckers. These kind of people are the lowest, cock sucking, motherfucking (Hey, that rhymed!) mouth breathing, pieces of utter filthy trash cunts.

A talented, young, beautiful father died, and these fuckers are more worried about their self promotion than the tragedy that occurred. Fuckers. To quote Robin who also posted about this, " I hope their groins rot off and they die a slow painful death."

Colors Turn To Gray

I'm just really really sad, you know? I had the hugest crush on him during the 10 Things I Hate About You/The Patriot/A Knights Tale days. He has a daughter. Sad.

To Make Me Smile Pretty

Apparently this is the face I make when I am very annoyed.

It's also my picture ID on my boyfriend's phone. I kind of like it, this way he already knows that I am annoyed with him before he even answers.

(Can anyone spot the future Botox injection site? You are correct if you said above my left eyebrow)

There's People Always Dying Just To Keep Them Alive

Don't worry, I'm not going to give anything away. I just wanted to tell you that Cloverfield was awesome. It was actually pretty funny, and the handheld action wasn't bad. It wasn't like Blair Witch, it was much steadier. So anyway, go see it. While it's still in theaters, on the big screen.

It's The Wrongs That Make The Words Come To Life

I first saw this at Avitable's

Let’s make a band:
1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first article title is the name of your band.

2. http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four words of the very last quote is the title of your album.

3. http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

Now take your pic, add the band name and title to it, then post it.

I love this name, it's totally quirky indie rock. The title is great for an album, too. Nice.

So, since this is a music themed meme, I have a confession to make. There is a band that I have ruled out since first hearing them a couple of years ago. The name, the band members, the genre, all of it.

Then I started seeing them on a TV show that I'm not going to admit that I watch, and I'd hear a song and think "well, that doesn't suck."

Eventually I heard them enough to realize I knew like half the songs on their record and liked most of them.

Then, the final blow came when I heard them cover the Killers and it didn't make me want to stab myself in the ear.

That's right. Although I'm still convinced Pete Wentz is a douche, I like Fall Out Boy. Both of the album's I've been listening to. It's super catchy. It's certainly not punk, like they like to say, but it's above average pop rock. Sigh.

Speaking of music I like, if you're a fan of Elliot Smith and those sorts of artists, I've been listening to Earlimart a lot. It's mellower than Death Cab or the Shins, but it has a certain quality that's similar. It's just really good, low key indie rock.

Anyways... Have a great weekend!

La La La Lie

Sorry if I haven't been around as much recently. We've been in the throws of work drama. Well, not me. My boyfriend. This is going to be a long rambling post, be warned.

Do you remember awhile ago I said something about the job offer my boyfriend received? Basically, he currently is the IT coordinator for a mid-sized law firm. One of the partners is going out on his own because everyone hates the douche main attorney at the firm.

So anyway, the partner offered my boyfriend a position at his new firm, which would include a 30% raise, and more responsibility. He'd still be the IT coordinator, but he'd also do the marketing and some administrative things. He'd get to pick out all the phones, the computers, where to buy office supplies, all sorts of stuff. For anal retentive control freaks like my boyfriend (who I love very much) this is heaven.

On Tuesday, the rest of the office found out that my boyfriend, 11 attorneys and a handful of secretaries and paralegals are leaving. And everyone is pissed, especially the main douche and the office manager.

Yesterday they stormed into his office and changed all his passwords so he wasn't in control of all the accounts and server crap anymore (sidenote, today the email system shut down because they didn't change all the passwords, just some, so nothing is communicating right, so they had to call in a tech guy to come and fix it). Then today, they came and basically ransacked his office, taking the projectors, the cameras, the phones, and the laptops he has stored. Like he's a fucking criminal. Honest to God, my boyfriend is the most non-confrontational, easy going, nice guy you'd ever meet. He hadn't even put in his two weeks notice yet. They weren't going to leave for another month or so, but now they'll be leaving in less than two weeks. He doesn't have anything to do now because they took his passwords and equiptment. So he's just sitting around getting paid for nothing, which is killing him, because he likes to work.

So tonight we went to see a movie, because that relaxes him. He's a movie whore. We went to see The Orphanage (El Orfanato). It's a story about a family that is going to open a center for special needs kids at the orphanage the mother used to live in. Basically, the son starts to see invisible friends then goes missing one day. The mother will stop at nothing to find her son, and the rest of the movie is her trying to find him. I don't know how much else I can say without giving away the whole plot.

The first hour and a half or so were really good. It was dark and creepy, without resorting to cheap scares. It has an intense plotline, and its mostly original, although it did remind me just a little of the plot of The Grudge . It was very well acted and directed. I even liked the end, when it was explained where Simon was, and whether or not he was dead. It was an awesome, sad twist ending.

However, there were some huge gaping plot holes. Most of them I can forgive, except for one. I can't say what it is, but trust me, it's huge. It's big enough that it pretty much ruined the movie for both myself and my boyfriend.

Overall though, it was a pretty good movie. But if you're easily bothered by implausible plot holes, this isn't the movie for you.

(That was a really long round about way of doing a movie review, eh?)

What If I Just Flip-Flopped?

Oh my fucking god, you guys. I'm so freaking excited. Radiohead announced their 2008 tour line up (not dates or venues yet) and they're coming to St. Louis. No one good ever comes here (shockingly).

Now I feel bad just having a post about how excited I am about Radiohead, so I thought I'd share with you what my mother told me yesterday. We were discussing the results of NH yesterday and I was declaring my love of Barack Obama. I told her that I wasn't surprised McCain won, seeing as how he is the most awesome Republican, probably ever, but I still wouldn't vote for him. She told me "You don't have to vote Democrat, you know." And then I laughed and laughed and laughed. She's so funny.

I stole this from Robin:

83% Barack Obama
81% Hillary Clinton
80% John Edwards
79% Chris Dodd
78% Bill Richardson
70% Joe Biden
66% Mike Gravel
66% Dennis Kucinich
47% Rudy Giuliani
39% Mitt Romney
38% John McCain
34% Tom Tancredo
30% Mike Huckabee
28% Fred Thompson
20% Ron Paul

Mine's Not A High Horse

I haven’t been able to find any of my rings for months and months, and tonight I finally found them. Where, you ask? Oh, well, they were in my jewelry box, thank you for asking. Novel concept, eh?

It’s not like they were super expensive or anything, but they were trinkets from my boyfriend (not, ahem, an engagement ring or anything.). There were also a few that were my mom’s in the 70s, funky retro ones. Needless to say, I’m not telling my boyfriend where I found them. In fact, I doubt he noticed I wasn’t wearing them.

Although, when I do wear the one with my birthstone, which is a pale topaz , people always stop and ask me if it’s an engagement ring. Then I would cry. So I had to switch it to my left hand.

Girl, I'm So Cool

Guess what, everyone? I'm one of the cool kids. That's right. The one, the only, the always funny Troy has tagged me with a meme. Hey, he could have given me Mongolian dysentery.

This is the one where you discuss whether or not the month you are born in can describe who you are as a person. I'm not tagging anyone, but if you want to do it all the details can be found here. There's a lot for November, so hang on. I was 19 out of 38 of them, so you probably could have put any adjectives in front of me and the results would have been the same. I don't think 50% confirms anything.

Has a lot of ideas- I like to think so. I mean, I’m an art student studying interior design. So that would suck.

Difficult to fathom- That depends on who you ask

Thinks forward- Absolutely. I love to plan things.

Unique and brilliant- Of course I’m brilliant.

Extraordinary ideas- Again, I hope so

Sharp thinking- Generally, I’m pretty quick.

Fine and strong clairvoyance- Not at all. I’m obtuse.

Can become good doctors- I don’t think you want me treating you. I did get a B in my biology class if that counts.

Dynamic in personality- I hope so

Secretive- Not at all. I love telling people my business.

Inquisitive- Yes, I’m nosy as hell.

Knows how to dig secrets- I sure try

Always thinking- Is it possible not to think? Can you turn it off?

Less talkative but amiable- No, I talk frequently.

Brave and generous- I’m a huge chicken.

Patient- I’m super impatient, actually.

Stubborn and hard-hearted- I’m not that stubborn, not really. Sometimes, but only when people are ordering me what to do when I don’t want to.

If there is a will, there is a way- Nah I give up easy.

Determined- Sometmes

Never give up- No, I give up. This is repetitive.

Hardly becomes angry unless provoked- No I get angry quite easily.

Loves to be alone- Yeah I do. Sadly.

Thinks differently from others- Probably true

Sharp-minded- I hope so. Was this on here already?

Motivates oneself- No I’m lazy. Very very lazy.

Does not appreciate praises- What? Crazy. I love praises.

High-spirited- Yes mostly.

Well-built and tough- I’m fairly tough.

Deep love and emotions- Sure, why not.

Romantic- Not really. I think most things are cheesy.

Uncertain in relationships- Nah.

Homely- Ouch. I hope not.

Hardworking- Nope, lazy. I do the least amount of work as possible.

High abilities- Sure, I have all sorts of skills.

Trustworthy- No I will blab to anyone who will listen. Don’t tell me anything.

Honest and keeps secrets- Honest, but I can’t keep a secret.

Not able to control emotions- No, I’m fairly in control.

Unpredictable- Not really, I’m boring,

You and I Could Go Down... In History

Today, I feel human again. I would say I'm 50% to well again, but that's a ton better. Unfortunately, instead of developing sexy phlegm, I'm talking like a 13 year old boy. My voice keeps cracking.

Besides eating my weight in Lays products, I have been seeing a ton of movies, so here we go:

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story

Walk Hard is the story of a man's journey through a long musical career. Basically it's a parody of Walk the Line and Ray. It was written by Judd Apatow, and starred John C. Reilly.

I was a little torn about this movie, but I think it's because my expectations were too high. I generally love anything Apatow, and have ever since Freaks and Geeks. This movie, to me, was probably his worst work. Which is not to say it wasn't good. It just wasn't great, which is what I'm used to from Judd.

There were definitely some funny parts, and I loved Jenna Fischer. The music was especially good. Each song really fit into the genre and time line it was supposed to. It's a soundtrack you could actually listen to.

Overall, I'd recommend it if you're a fan of other Apatow films, just don't except it to be quite as laugh out loud funny.

Juno

Juno is a movie about a teenage girl (Ellen Page) who discovers she is pregnant with her friend's (Michael Cera) baby after the first time they have sex. She decides to give the baby to a couple who was unable to conceive (Jennifer Garner and Jason Bateman).

This was by far the best movie I've seen in a very long time. It was well written and well acted. It had comedy and drama. It was super funny without being lowbrow. It could have gone a different direction, and I'm glad it didn't.

Ellen Page was perfectly cast as Juno, and I can't think of anything Michael Cera has done that I don't absolutely love.

It was a genuine feel good movie, and I recommend it to anyone who likes movies at all.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Sweeney Todd is a musical about a barber (Johnny Depp) who seeks revenge against those who have wronged him. It also starred Helena Bonham Carter and Alan Rickman, and was directed by Tim Burton.

I think this was probably Tim Burton's best movie. On the whole, I think he's way overrated. This was the only movie I've seen of his in the last decade that didn't totally disappoint me (That's right, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I'm talking to you.)

Johnny Depp did a good job, if not wholly original one. It was like Edward Scissorhands met Jack Sparrow. His voice was actually one of the better ones in the movie.

Overall though, I'd have to say I didn't really like it. I was bored pretty much through the whole thing. It never stopped being dreary. Also, I'm a tired of the whole Burton/Depp/Bonham Carter thing.

If you're a big fan of musicals or Tim Burton, you'll probably like it.

If you don't like either, you won't like it. This movie certainly won't win new fans to either.

Other movies I saw on DVD this weekend:

Superbad
Knocked Up
Hairspray
The Ice Harvest

Ones I haven't seen before:

Hatchet
- This was really really bad. Seriously, don't watch it. It wasn't funny or scary.

The Heartbreak Kid- Not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be, until the last 20 minutes or so, where it really turned into a crap pile. But other than that, it was pretty good.

Brick- Pretty bad. It was well acted, but written horribly. They were talking like it was a noir film, but it definitely wasn't.

I Have No Resolutions

Did you all have a good New Years? Mine was fairly good. Dinner went well, except for me catching the steaks on fire. Twice. Which sucked, because who wants their steak well done? Just one person, so at least she was happy. But the fuckers left me alone in the kitchen with strep throat and a fever. I hadn't been out of bed in two days, but they let me cook dinner. So they deserved burned steak.

This is actually the first New Years Eve I can remember. I'm not one for going out and partying, because of all the crazy people. But I still usually end up drinking enough. I had maybe three glasses of champagne and that was it. We played Wii, of course. Mario Party, specifically. I'm a bitch and said no Guitar Hero. Then we played Scene It Movie Edition 2 and Cranium's Pop 5 (which is super super fun, by the way)

Now I'm running on four hours of sleep and lots of sugar, so I'm flying. I've been eating like shit all weekend, much to my boyfriend's delight. Culvers, Burger King, Chinese, Hardees., pizza, fritos, candy... crap you normally can't pay me to eat. The last time I remember eating fried food was more than two months ago, and it was just one half order of fries.

I don't think I've ever made a New Years resolution, and I'm not going to start now. I don't like setting myself up for failure. However, I do need to get back on track. Starting tomorrow, I'm cutting processed and fried foods out again. The pizza doesn't count because its not fried, so that will be breakfast tomorrow. I can't be sick much longer, my jeans won't be able to hold me in.
